God is Good All the Time

That may seem like a pretty obvious statement. Of course God is good. He’s God. That’s exactly my point. God’s character IS goodness. Our circumstances don’t make him good or not good. He’s always good in spite of our circumstances. In my heart I know this, but lately, I’ve really needed a reminder. As thankful as I am for my husband, a place to live, food on the table and a job to go to, I do not consider my life “good”. Perhaps that’s the wrong outlook, but here’s why. I just don’t like my circumstances. I don’t want to have to work. I hate being so far away from my family. I don’t like the trials that we’ve had in trying to have children. And believe it or not, I don’t want to live in an apartment anymore. But all of these things and any other trial that we may face does not dimenish God’s goodness. As the saying goes..”God is good…all the time and all the time…God is good”. So today, inspite of my circumstances and the way that I feel about them I praise God, not because of what he’s done for me, but because of who he is. He is God and He is good.

Opening Up

Sometimes it’s hard for me to believe that I was really pregnant last year..well, that I was pregnant twice. You might think, that’s stupid, Ellen, of course you were. I know I was. I remember the ultrasound. I heard the heartbeat, but you see, that’s all I have. Memories. No baby to rock to sleep. No diapers to change. No baby clothes to wash. No preggo belly pictures. Even no ultrasound photo because I threw it away the morning of my miscarriage. I just couldn’t be reminded that there was actually a baby in there. I wasn’t that far along when it happened, just a few weeks. Little did I know that it and the one following it would change everything. It’s a difficult place to be knowing that your body can’t naturally carry a child. Noone ever expects that to happen. What’s worse is that some people actually take for granted that they can have children. Some women never even have to plan. They can “accidentally” get pregnant and carry the baby to full term without so much as any complication. God is sovereign, but life sure isn’t fair.

The hat that I knitted for John doesn’t fit him. I am going to try to make him another one, but in the mean time I am going to try to sell this one. I am asking $15. It’s a large size hat so it would probably only fit a man with a large head. It would make a great Christmas or Birthday present. Please leave a comment if you are interested.

KY State Fair

For the third year in a row, John and I went to the KY State Fair over the weekend. John and I love fairs. We love the food and we love to see the animal shows and so many other things. We used to like riding the rides, but I think that John and I are just getting old or something because we don’t really even bother to ride the rides anymore. We really just go for the food and the animal exhibits. Anyway, here are some pics from the fair.

AMY!!!!!! Yes,that’s right she is home and doing really well. She still can’t hardly walk so she uses a walker and she can’t be by herself. She goes to therapy three times a week, but she is steadily improving. God is doing wonders within our church. Praise Him! Praise Him!

A Bug, A Bus, and a New Perspective

Well, this week, yet again, we have been having car trouble. Thankfully it’s not my new car, but John’s incredibily ancient, worthless, VW Beetle. So while, John’s car is in the shop that usually means that I rely on taxi’s or friends to get me to work. Well, on Monday the shop people said that they might have to keep John’s car for over a week until one mechanic comes back into town. John and I looked at our finances and realized that there was no way we could afford me taking a taxi to work every morning. So…I’ve been taking the bus. Now, let me explain why this is such a big deal to me. First of all, I’ve never had to take public transportation before, so it’s kind of an adventure. Second, I have to walk a mile to the bus stop. The first morning I was pretty scared, so I prayed the whole way. This morning I still prayed but only because God and I had to talk about some things (more on that another time). Anyway, so I walked to the bus stop, took my breakfast with me and ate while I was waiting for the bus. It was very humbling. It has definately made me even more thankful for my car and especially thankful for those bus drivers who get up way before I do so that they can drive people like me to work. Over all, it has been a good experience. Happily though, John’s car is out of the shop ahead of time and I can take my own car to work tomorrow

First of all, I HATE these commercials. I get the whole letting people know that there’s a drug that can help reduce the chance of cervical cancer and I get that’s a big deal. BUT, the virus that they are saying can cause cervical cancer is the HPV virus, a SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED DISEASE. Come on. Why go through all the hassle of getting a vaccine when all you have to do is not have sex. And really, if you aren’t married you shouldn’t be having sex anyway. The worst commercial of them all is the one that says that mother’s get their preteen daughters vaccinated. That is the stupidest thing I have ever heard. Do something real for your daughter and teach her not to have sex before she’s married. Then you won’t have to worry about the “virus that causes cervical cancer”
